Privacy & Data
Can I use Lound anonymously?
Yes. If you sign in with Apple, you can hide your email. Apple generates a random relay address, and we never see your real email or personal info. With Google sign-in, we only receive your email and name from your Google account.
Is my voice recording stored anywhere?
Not on our servers. Your audio is processed in memory, transcribed, and immediately discarded. You can choose to save recordings locally on your device through Settings if you want to keep them.
What about photos and videos I attach?
Photos and videos never leave your device. We only store a reference to the file in your photo library. If you ask Lound to analyze an image in chat, you'll be asked for permission each time before it's sent for analysis.
Who can see my journal entries?
Only you. We don't have employees browsing your data. The only time anyone at Lound would access your account is if you explicitly request technical support and grant permission.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. We use OpenAI with their zero data retention option, meaning they don't store or train on your content. AssemblyAI processes your audio for transcription and discards it immediately.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. Use "Delete Account" in the app and all your data is permanently removed from our systems.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export My Data. You can download all your entries and conversations as a JSON file, or have it emailed to you. It's your data.
AI & How It Works
How does the AI analysis work?
When you record, your audio is transcribed and analyzed to identify patterns, people, events, and emotional themes. The AI learns your context over time, so its insights become more personalized the longer you use Lound.
Is the AI actually personalized or just generic responses?
It's genuinely personalized. Lound remembers people, places, commitments, and patterns from your previous entries. Ask it about something you mentioned weeks ago and it can recall the context.
How accurate is the mood/theme detection?
It's usually helpful, but not perfect. AI can misread tone or miss nuance. Think of it as a thoughtful friend's perspective, not a clinical assessment. This is a journaling tool, not a medical device.
Subscription & Limits
What's included in the free version?
You can record up to 5 minutes per entry, send 20 chat messages per day, and get AI insights on individual entries. Premium unlocks cross-entry pattern recognition across your full history.
What do I get with Premium?
Record up to 60 minutes per entry, unlimited chat messages, AI insights on your full history, and the AI gets smarter about your patterns over time.
What happens if I cancel Premium?
You keep all your data. You can still access and read everything you've recorded. You just return to free tier limits for new recordings and chat.
Technical
Does Lound work offline?
Lound handles spotty connections well and will queue uploads when connectivity is poor. However, transcription, AI analysis, and chat require internet since they happen in the cloud.
Why not use on-device AI?
Current on-device models aren't powerful enough to provide the quality of insights we want for you. We use state-of-the-art cloud AI to give you the best experience. As local models improve, we'll explore bringing more processing on-device.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL. Your recordings are processed but never stored. Your transcriptions are stored securely in our database.
